The External Balance is designed to measure six components of force and moment with very high precision while located outside of the wind tunnel test section. The External Balance is designed to measure moments about a point at or near the tunnel centerline. The balance is designed to be compact, yet rigid. The natural frequencies are high and the deflections are extremely low. The models are attached to the balance by a variety of support systems.
The Semi-Span Pedestal balance is fabricated from a single piece of material. There is a hole through the center for model services. It has extreme load capacities with minimum deflections. The natural frequencies are high and the balance measures 3 moments and 2 forces. Redundant bridges increase the balance’s reliability.
The platform balance can be of single or multi-piece construction, measuring 6 forces. The natural frequencies are high and the deflections are very low. The model attachment may be internal or external.
