FOREBODY/INLET OPTIMIZATION JET ENGINE INLET TESTING
The Forebody/Inlet Optimization test technique enables our customers to evaluate the performance of an inlet at a variety of flight conditions. These include pressure recovery, inlet distortion and spillage. Depending on the military aircraft testing requirements, Calspan can instrument a model with:
- An array of static pressure taps along the inlet.
- Static and total pressure taps at the engine face.
- Temperature probes in multiple locations.
To vary the airflow through a military aircraft testing model, Calspan uses an ejector with a mass flow control system. The ejector delivers high pressure air downstream of the engine face to simulate the mass flow through the engine. This is typically used with a mass flow plug whose position can be varied to make fine adjustments to the mass flow.
